Q: Seizure Disorder?
I have a seizure disorder. Only have had 1 major seizure where I passed out. But did come through quite quickly. But recently I will feel a little strange and then it will pass. Almost like I am remembering something from a long time ago. Then afterwards…I feel really weak and tired. Has anyone ever had this experience before? I am 35, had the only seizure 1 year ago but my EEG’s have been abnormal on my left side. I am currently taking Keppra which isn’t really bad. I have had worse. They feel that I need to be on something due to the abnormal EEG’s. Anyone else with these symptoms? Thanks!
A: wow hun – it sounds like you might be having parital seizures, like petit mal or absence seizures… you really need to see a doc. i have worked with ppl suffering a variety of seizures, and have had a couple myself while pregnant.
Simple partial seizures may cause unusual feelings or sensations that can take many forms, such as sudden, unexplained feelings of joy, anger, sadness, or nausea. It’s not uncommon to hear, smell, taste, see, or feel things that are not real. During simple partial seizures, you may remain alert and aware.
Q: Will a seizure disorder prevent me from becoming a Law Enforcement Officer?
I have been applying to several police departments. I currently have a controlled seizure disorder that I take meds for. I am seizure free for approximately five years. I am concerned this may affect my career as a law enforcement officer. Can anyone with any knowledge help me?

Q: Seizure disorder?
Is it possible to develop seizures in early adulthood? I am 21 and have recently been experiancing episodes where I stare blankly, and am unable to get out of it. I get confused. It only lasts a minute or so, but someone I work with said that I could be having little seizures. If you know what could be wrong, please let me know!
I started experiancing migraines about 1 year ago. I have them several times a week. I currently see a neurologist for those. Do you think that 2 could be related and do you think I should make an appointment to see him?
A: Absolutely YES.
There are several categories of seizures and a few of them look like what you are describing.
You should go in to your doctor and get this looked at. It could be nothing, but better to be sure.
Q: Can chronic insomnia cause a seizure disorder?
I’ve had insomnia all my life but last year started having headaches everyday. My family doctor finally sent me to a neurologist. After 2 eeg’s, the neurologist says I have a seizure disorder and wants me to start keppra. I am really afraid of all medications. Any help out there? Thanks!!
A: Perhaps. I have had insomnia since I was 16. I am now 56. The first med the docs prescribed for this was klonopin, which is also used for seizures and panic disorder. For a list of everything I’ve tried for sleep and how it worked for me, see http://www.fms-help.com/sleep.htm My insomnia story is at http://www.fms-help.com/insomnia.htm
I do hope your headaches will go away soon. A lot of people with fibromyalgia have bad headaches. As you may know, fibromyalgia can be caused by lack of restorative sleep. My fibromyalgia story is at http://www.fms-help.com/fibro.htm if you want to compare symptoms.

Q: What if you had Epilepsy or a Seizure Disorder?
Hi, do you think if others are aware, that you suffer from this illness, they could try and cause you to have a seizure?
Is it possible. Of course, they would have to be lower than dirt or Satan themselves, but could it happen?
Could a suddent loud noise trigger a seizure?
A: I can’t imagine anybody doing that. Also in the great majority of epileptics there is no good way to cause a seizure, so they couldn’t do it if they wanted to.
Q: Is there an herb used to treat seizure disorder in older dogs?
My Boxer is 12 years old & has started having seizures occasionally. I was wondering if there is an herb that might help.

Q: Is it okay to drink Alcohol with seizure disorder that is controled?
I take Zonegran and Paxil for depression. Can drink still in moderation?
And smoke?
A: I actually believe that alcohol is Not supposed to be mixed with paxil (an ssri/selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor), an antidepressant, or a medication for seizure disorder. Please do check with your pharmacist and don’t go by us wonderful people here
You’re right to question that as one can have serious consequences if mixing alcohol and prescription medication or certain medications, in general.
Q: What is the difference between epilepsy and seizure disorder?
A: Epilepsy is caused by flashing lights and things of that type. A seizure disorder can be caused from many other things. I have a SEIZURE DISORDER. Flashing lights sometimes bother me, but most of my seizures occur when I am stressed
Q: Can I learn how to fly a helicopter? I have a seizure disorder (under control).?
I know I can’t fly a plane. I don’t know if the criteria are the same for flying helicopters.
A: Sorry pal,
any seizure disorders are disqualifying for any class of medical
certificate, which you must posses to exercise the privileges of a pilots certificate (helo’s too)
14 CFR Part 67
§ 67.309 Neurologic.
Neurologic standards for an airman medical certificate are:
(a) No established medical history or clinical diagnosis of any of the following:
(1) Epilepsy;
(2) A disturbance of consciousness without satisfactory medical explanation of the cause; or
(3) A transient loss of control of nervous system function(s) without satisfactory medical explanation of the cause.
(b) No other seizure disorder, disturbance of consciousness, or neurologic condition that the Federal Air Surgeon, based on the case history and appropriate, qualified medical judgment relating to the condition involved, finds—
(1) Makes the person unable to safely perform the duties or exercise the privileges of the airman certificate applied for or held; or
(2) May reasonably be expected, for the maximum duration of the airman medical certificate applied for or held, to make the person unable to perform those duties or exercise those
Q: Does anyone here have or know someone with a seizure disorder?
What happens during the seizure and how do you or they treat it?
A: I have a seizure disorder caused by a brain bleed at age 23. I just had a grand mal (the big ones) this past Saturday and I called 911 because I was scared and alone. A lot of people have the “staring” or petit mal seizures which consist of doing odd things (walking around aimlessly to taking off all their clothing). I am lucky to have never had one but if you ever see someone having a Grand Mal please please support their head! I have hit my head off the ground during a seizure so many times. Also, be aware that the person may unknowingly swing at you or try to hit you. It’s not their fault.
Expect to see some foaming at the mouth due to the fact that their windpipe is (a muscle) slammed shut and they can’t swallow. Never ever put anything in the mouth because you can break a tooth and they can inhale it into their lungs when they come-to…then you have a whole new set of problems.
Don’t believe the swallowing tongue bs it’s not true. However, the person can aspirate and inhale mucous on waking but will usually cough it up.
The nicest thing you can do is call 911 and not assume the person is just alright, look for medical bracelets. Certain people like me need 911 every time for a brain scan. I just so happened to forget to wear my bracelet last Sunday! Luckily, a lot of us will be able to tell you before we’re about to have a seizure because it comes with a large surge of energy and sometimes pain thru the body. Hope this helps!
Q: How can I get transportation, I have a seizure disorder and can’t get a driver’s license?
How can I live a normal life? I don’t want to take the freaking bus for the rest of my life, how am I suppose to pick up a date or go places? I can’t afford to take a cab or limo everywhere but I can’t get a freaking car or driver’s license cause of my epilepsy
A: I´m 22 and I don´t have a drivers licence. Why? Because I can’t afford it, or actually the car that makes having one worth it. I’m working multiple jobs to finance my education, my room and everything else. I don’t see that changing anytime soon unless I win the lottery.
Look, it doesn’t matter. If the car is what your date’s care about then they’re not worth it. It’s a simple way of separating the good from the bad. Don’t make it about your epilepsy. That doesn’t define who you are. All people have limitations. You know yours. Work around it. I have Ehlers Danlos syndrome which means I bruise very quickly and that maybe I cannot have a child in the future because it’s dangerous. (I’m still waiting for test results) I don’t let it get me down. I’ll save money to adopt one. And look at it this way, if your future wife is going to drive you around, atleast she’ll become a very good driver
Q: What is the difference between a seizure disorder and epilepsy?
A: There is no difference.
