Q: What is latest successful treatment of epilepsy. Please guide me for that.?
I have 2 epileptic patients whose fits are controlled but I want it should be cured permanently. Would someone guide me to the latest medicines or other medical procedures in this regard. Thanks
A: About 10 yrs back I had several fits which even went to the major level. The doctors had prescribed dilantin and said I would necessarily have to take this tablet the rest of my life. I never took the tablets as prescribed, but instead found the the greatest relief when I came out of the fit. Each and every muscle of the body stretched to the fullest extent parallels a fit to ***. This may be bad advice but it worked for me. Purely the power of the mind, which was also earlier the cause of the fits.
Q: What is the best treatment for Epilepsy?
A: When i was a child I was on tegratol (sp?) and propraninol (sp?) There is alot of drugs out there now that help. Mine was for petite mal siezures. Technology has come a long way to helping those with epilepsy and families of. Here are two sites. they can tell you the latest treatments and what they are doing. I hope this helps.
Q: does taking tegrettol tablets for the past 15 years as a treatment for epilepsy. create any sideffects?

A: Bone marrow issues. Make sure you take additional calcium. Liver function. Make sure you have routine blood tests for liver.
Other than that, the drug works great for epilepsy for my mom.

Q: where do i find a best neourologist who can help me in treatment for epilepsy(Fits)?
A: I also have Epilepsy and my epilepsy is well controlled. Nearly all neurologists are very capable of helping you control your epilepsy. I would suggest asking around to find the best doctor to help you.
But I also recommend that you might want to see a therapist and I’ll tell you why. I learned from experience, and I am willing to share it with you, that you can control about one-third of your seizures just by diet and your attitude. By eating a good diet, you control your blood sugar levels and by your attitude, you can either raise or lower your seizure threshold. Good sleep is also necessary to seizure control. Click on my profile and write me if you wish and I’ll get back to you to share with you some of the things that worked for me. Whatever you do, view yourself as a survivor rather than being a victim and maintain an active life. Best of luck and GOD bless!
Q: what is the best treatment for epilepsy?
A: There are excellent medicines available through your doctor. If you come across someone having an epileptic fit, do not be frightened. Remove tables and chairs or other objects against which the person may injure himself. Do not try to stop them from kicking around, you will get injured. Do not worry if you see a small amount of blood coming from the persons mouth, keep your fingers away or the person may unwittingly bite on the finger(s) and clamp on. Call an ambulance. The types of seizures are Gran Mal and Petit Mal – the person usually has some idea that one is coming on and unknowingly prepares themself for it. Recent discovery with the use of pet dogs shows that the dog learns to sense the oncoming seizure and can be trained to warn the patient by barking……….
Q: Is there a 100% curable treatment for epilepsy?
A: No, but there are doctors who are searching for a cure. I have included a VERY brief list of sources of people who are researching this. Ask your doctor about all of this. Some of the newer designer drugs work quite well with different types of seizures.
Q: Is there any sure shot treatment of epilepsy in children ?
I am looking for treatment of seizures for my kid who is 8 yrs old and has very less understanding, no mobility, no communication till now. I have tried, allopath, ayurveda, homeopathy, acupuncture. Allopathic anti-convulsants are still continuing.
A: I don’t know about a sure shot for the treatment of any disease. Magic bullets are very rare. However, there are many treatment options for epilepsy.

At the FDA website you will find few drug treatments have been approved since 1999 for the treatment of Epilepsy.

I did find this article on the use of botanicals and herbs interesting, you may want to peruse it: http://professionals.epilepsy.com/page/ar_1138908904.html
Surprisingly, I did find that an implantable device has been approved for use in Epilepsy patients who are resistant to other treatments: “Cyberonics, Inc. (Nasdaq: CYBX) was founded in 1987 to design, develop and market medical devices for the long-term treatment of epilepsy, depression and other chronic treatment-resistant disorders using a unique therapy, vagus nerve stimulation (VNS). Stimulation is delivered by an implantable generator similar to a cardiac pacemaker.” From what I read it appears the device has been approved for use in depressive disorders in the U.S. but not epilepsy. It has been approved for use in other countries. Here is a website that discusses its use and where it has been approved:

There is a promising surgery that you may want to research, SISCOM Epilepsy Surgery. Mayo Clinic claims that “SISCOM can be used for patients of all ages, and has allowed some operations that may not have been possible before.”

I hope this will be of some use to you in your quest to find a healthy life for your child.
Q: What are some alternative treatments for Epilepsy?
I’ve heard Kombucha is helpful. I also know of acupuncture.
Anything else? My seizures are getting more frequent and… it kinda sucks (obviously) so I am looking for some treatments to add with my meds.
A: Hi Becca,
There are some herbal & homeopathic remedies that can be used effectively on their own for people who are not currently using prescription medications or can be taken in combination with anticonvulsant medications to improve their effectiveness as well as to allow for lower dosages and subsequently fewer side-effects.
These include herbs like passion flower and skullcap, which have beneficial effects on the health and functioning of the brain, neurons, and entire nervous system. There are also biochemic cellular-supporting tissue salts which may be taken at the first signs frazzled nerves and imbalanced moods for effective, temporary help. These include Cuprum metallicum & Cicuta virosa.
As far as diet goes. A diet rich in fats but low in carbohydrate – sugars and starches, is most suitable for most of the epilepsy patients, especially children. This is called ketogenic diet as it produces ketosis, in which blood levels of chemicals called ketones increases. This is said to decrease the number and intensity of seizures drastically
A good alternative therapy quite effective in seizures is Biofeedback – It is both an ancient as well as a modern medical tool. In this, you learn to influence body processes which were once thought to be beyond conscious control. It is an ancient Indian art and has of late been discovered by Western doctors. You need to ask your doctor about this as it beyond the scope of this piece of information.
Hope all this helps
Q: Where can I get a treatment for a pseudo epilepsy? Probably a Neurology Institute specialized only in that.?
The patient has 15 seizures a day. Each lasts for about 30 minutes to an hour. Even if it is as a research.
thank you senora luna for your angry answer, you didn’t help at all!!!! She has already seen 8 doctors and no treatment has worked.
A: Have they explained what pseudo epilepsy is? Pseudo means false, so they are saying that it isn’t due to uncontrolled electrical storms in the brain. I would start back with the primary care provider who can make a referral. Doubt it will be to another neurology department since they are saying that they are not due to epilepsy. Have you searched this diagnosis on the Internet?
Q: Regarding epilepsy fit? treatment?
My report says multiple innumerable well defined cystic(T2 hyperintense) lesion noted diffusely scattered in bilateral cerebral hemisphere, bilateral basal ganglia, bilateral thalamus and in right cerebellum.Lesion also noted in splenium of corpus callosum.I am taking medicine Euresta sr 300,lobazam 10, corus capusule.for last one year please help me in guiding right treatment.
A: With the given data it is difficult to give an advice. You seems to have symptomatic epilepsy,ie,your epilepsy is due an organic disease in your brain ,as is evident from your CT Scan report.Your doctor has prescribed medicines for that and if you are better with those medicines all you have ti do is to continue the same.If you are not better again discuss with your doctor if any thing else is to be done, any further tests,or any further consultations other than the present one.One thing you have to keep in mind, some diseases are not having a permanant cure and one has to take life long treatment for them.

Q: Epilepsy triggers and treatment?
Hey,
i was wondering if triggers of epilepsy (specificly photosensitive epilepsy) can be stopped with medication. For example, if i took the medication, are seizures no longer triggered by flashing lights? and what does the medication for photosensitive epilepsy actually do to you?
Thanks a lot.
A: idk cause the medicine didn’t do much of nothing for me. i had to have brain surgery to make things better.
Q: anybody know of treatment for Self-Induced Photosensitive Epilepsy?
i have this, and it’s really hard to understand because like 1 in a billion people have it.
A: the key words are self-induced. So figure out what caused the seizure and avoid that activity. I heard that someone had actually put a video up on one of the sites that caused seizures in people like you. Take your meds on time and don’t skip meals and control your anger and stress.
Q: what treatment is your dog on for epilepsy?
the treatment my dog is on are, epiphen, epilease and diazipan but still has fits (gran mal) every month, my vet increases the dosage every month but he still has them, usually between 8-10 at a time lasting well over an hour, im sure there must be some different medication he could try as this lot does not work, my vet is considering changing his meds at my insistance, what meds are you dogs taking? and has it helped. thanks. x
just tolet you all know epiphen is phinobarbitone
A: My dog was epileptic and used to have regular grand mals. She was on phinobarbitone (sorry of that’s not spelt right!!). Although they didn’t stop the fits completely, they did reduce the number and severity of them significantly and there were no noticable side effects.
She had a very long and healthy life that she wouldn’t have done had she not been on this medication. Hope you get something that works for you both….
