Q: does anyone know when the medication Lamictal becomes generic in the us?
i have to take it for seizures and it costs $50 through insurance. can’t wait until it becomes generic?

A: Unfortunately its going to be several years. It is relatively new on the market and most drugs have a 7 year patent before they go generic. It is expensive but worth it. I take it to and wish it was cheaper! At least you have insurance that covers it. I had to appeal to my insurance company to pay for it.

Q: when does medication lamictal go generic?
my doctor mentioned in may but i havent seen it yet. does anybody know more specifically?

A: I just spoke with my doctor about this today, and she told me it would be going generic in June, but I can’t find any official information.

Q: Can the use of the medication lamictal cause the side effect of memory loss?

A: I can only say from my own personal experience that yes, Lamictal causes some short term memory loss, and for 2 other people that I know take it. It’s not severe, though. It’s the kind of memory loss where you walk into the kitchen, and as soon as you’re there, you’ve forgotten why you went there in the first place. A few minutes after you leave the kitchen, you remember what is was, and go back for it.
Or…you may be talking, and in mid-sentence, forget the purpose of what you were trying to say and aren’t sure what to say next because of it. Does that make sense?

Q: Does anyone take the medication lamictal and what effect does it have on you?

A: I took this medication and loved it, but it totally gave my gallbladder a flare up and I was so sick, I had to come off of it. I am super sensative to meds, just an FYI. Some people experience side effects and some dont. Normally, the medicine is better tolerated when taken with food.

If you have afew side effects and came get through them, this meds was great while I was on it. Or you might not even have a side effect.

Godd luck.

Q: i fear dying why do i stil do destructive behavior drinking fighting i take the medication lamictal why?
i am bipolar but am desperately confused .why do i do such dumb things i am also quick 2 fight

A: I’m bipolar, too, and I also take Lamictal. I see a psychiatrist that specializes in medication, just for medication management. I see a psychologist for talk therapy. Are you seeing anyone? Maybe Lamictal’s not right for you. There are other options. I do drink, though, although my doctor doesn’t want me to because my medication might not work as well as it could, but my mood’s pretty stable. The fighting might have something more to do with than just being bipolar.

Q: lamictal medication crisis?
i am 22 and have epilepsy. i am taking 3 kinds of medications to help me not have seizures yet every time one medication by the name of lamictal comes low when blood results are in. it is a bit low but now my neurologist called my parents and told them that my level of lamictal medication is very low and therefore they need to to an EEG on me. i take my medications daily 12 hours apart and get enough rest and hae not skipped any doses. can someone plz help me with this sticky situation? thanks

A: They just want to get an EEG to see what kind of activity levels you have going on when your levels of Lamictal are low. If there is a lot of activity and it looks like you are leaning more towards the chances of having a seizure they may need to up the dosage to help lower the chances and vice versa. I myself am currently taking it as a treatment for bi-polar disorder, and while it doesn’t effect me the way it does you, i.e. seizures and such, my levels still have to be monitored and the effects have to be watched so levels can be adjusted accordingly. Good luck, it’s not so bad.

Q: What does the medication Lamotrigine/ Lamictal treat?
Besides being an anticonvulsant/ medication for bipolar disorder, what is this used to treat?
I was prescribed this at 15, and I do not believe that I have bipolar disorder.

thanks x

A: Off-label uses include the treatment of peripheral neuropathy, trigeminal neuralgia, cluster headaches, migraines, and reducing neuropathic pain.

Off-label psychiatric usage includes the treatment of depersonalization disorder, bipolar II disorders, schizoaffective disorder, borderline personality disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder , and as adjunctive therapy for treatment refractory unipolar depression.

Q: is the medication lamictal generic?
Does anybody know how long the medication lamictal has been on the market or if it comes in a generic?

A: FDA Approved Caraco’s Generic Lamictal. Final approval to market this product is anticipated subsequent to the expiry of patent protection on January 22, 2009.

Q: Lamictal medication for Bipolar? Is this a mood stabilizing drug?
I have Bipolar II. I was prescribed Lamictal. Is this a mood stabilizing drug? How does it work? Am I going to be normal finally?

A: It’s technically an anti-seizure medication, but many of those also have mood stablizing effects as well. This is the first and only mood stablizer I’ve tried and it’s helped me immensely. I take it with a couple other meds, so it’s hard to tell what helps what, but I am more “normal” than I have been in years. It may take a while to find what meds work for you. You may be lucky enough to have Lamictal be it, but don’t get discouraged. There is some combination of meds that will help you.

Q: Has anyone had any experience with the medication Lamictal?
What are your thoughts on it? good or bad.. thanks

A: I TOOK IT FOR A WHILE , MIGHT HAVE TO GO BACK ON IT!!!
TOO MUCH CAN CAUSE A RASH CALLED ” STEVEN-JOHNSON’S
SYNDROME” YOU ARE STARTED 25 MG FOR 2 WEEEKS THEN 50 MG ON THE THIRD WEEK!!!!

Q: Im currently taking Lamictal, but I still have severe anxiety and hypomania. What medication could I add?
Don’t worry about medical disclaimers, feel free to blurt out your opinions.
Id like to go into the doctors office with a few suggestions to present to him.

A: Seroquel or Abilify will take care of your hypomania. It works wonders.

Q: Lamictal Medication—ooops!!!! HELP?
So in the morning I take a chewable viamin C tablet and a lamictal (for bipolar disorder) tablet. I accidentally chewed my lamictal tablet. Is this a slow release medicine and if so, what could this do to me?
by the way — thats not the best taste in the world

A: This is a one time mishap – I would not worry about it. If you had mistaken a handful of them – yes, then you would be in trouble, but for now, you should be fine.

If you feel any strange effects, call you doctor immediately, or go to an emergency room and tell them what happened, but I doubt that you will find this necessary.

Q: does epilepsy medication lamictal make your hair thin?

A: I have been on Lamictal for several years and still have a pretty full head of hair. Just like any drug it has a long list of possible side effects, but I don’t see anything about hair loss.

Stress can cause hair loss though, and from experience I can say that epilepsy can be very stressful.

Q: how to tapper of my medication lamictal?

A: Talk to your doctor before you try to get off of it. You don’t want to have any problems. If you’re on lamictal for bipolar disorder, or another psych problem, you really shouldn’t go off of it without your doctor’s help. You can start spiraling out of control and have a lot of problems. You can also have a bad reaction by stopping too quickly.
