Q: Lamictal Medicine?
anyone who has taken this, or is close with somone who has taken this medicine….how was the experience ranging from your side effects to your over all recovery?
im thinking about bringing this medicine up with my spychiatrist but would that be concidered bad and make it out to be ”pill fishing”.
bc ive did some research by myself and im leaning torwards borderline and Depersonilization and want to bring it up with her also.
thank you.
i have bipolar tendencies. she keeps going back to that.
im just a mess lol
A: I am bipolar II and this med has changed my life. I am infinitely better than I have ever been in my life, and finally feel like I am truly living.
I did not have many side effects, when I first up the dose I tend to get a bit of verbal dyslexia which can get a bit annoying but that goes away real quick. I have noticed no other side effects. That is why lamictal is becoming more commonly prescribed, for most people it has very few side effects. Oh, I also noticed that when I started getting up to a fairly high dose (200 – 300 mg) when I would up the dose, my hands would shake a bit for the first few days, again that went away. Also, if I take all 300 mg at ones I feel a little drunk, so I split the does into some at night and some in the morning and that problem is completely gone. Over all it is very good with no side effects after about the first week at a new dose.
If you don’t think the diagnosis is right or the med is right for you, definitely talk to your psychiatrist about it so she can help treat you in the way that will benefit you the most.

A: Lamictal is not a medication that someone would pill fish for. If you think you need a mood stableizer talk to your doc about it.
Q: are acai berries capsules compatible with the medicine lamictal?
are they compatible or not?
A: The Acai berry supplements like the one from http://ultraacaiberry.com/y/ are completely safe. It’s just like eating the fruit.
Q: What kind of medicine for cold & flu while on Lamictal?
Pretty simple. What kind of medicine can I take for headaches, cold, and flu while taking Lamictal? I’m on Lamictal for epilepsy if that helps at all.
A: You should speak with your pharmacist and ask him/her what cold and flu remedies are safe to take with Lamictal. Many cold and flu remedies have listings on the package as far as “do not take if you are on…” But your Pharmacist is the expert and can safely recommend something that won’t cause a bad interaction.
Q: does the medicine Lamictal make you loose or gain weight?
Lamictal is an anti-depressant and i wasn’t sure if it makes you loose weight, gain weight, or stay the same.
please let me know. thanks ! =D
A: Lamictal is also used to treat seizures and bipolar disorders. It shouldn’t have any effect on your weight.
Q: I am taking Lamictal and Kepra together for epilepsy. Is it safe to drink alcohol while on these medicine?
225 mg Lamictal, twice a day.
1,000 mg Kepra, twice a day.
A: ask your pharmacist but me yeah i would chug a bottle of jim beam if i were you
Q: Does the medicine Lamictal have any stimulants in it?Because I started taking it Wednesay and I am AWAKE!?
Since I started taking it I feel like I used to when I was using crank. I am SUPER hyper and need to be doing something all the time. I was taking Dilantin before and it made me a zombie.
A: Lamotrigine (brand name Lamictal) is commonly used for epilepsy, bipolar disorder, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other indications. Like and drug in the psychoactive category, it can have some stimulating effects. Usually these are minimal, with only insomnia reported. The more concerning side effects are usually life-threatening skin reactions. However, since they don’t really know the exact mechanism of action of the drug, it certainly is possible that your symptoms are from the drug, especially if that is the only change in your routine that has occurred recently. You should let your physician know about your symptoms…they may decide to continue, as side stimulating side effects usually abate to a certain degree over time. But they may not, and if you are taking them for seizures, a lack of sleep can lower your seizure threshold. Good luck!
Q: Is it dangerous to mix Oxycodone with Lamictal(seizure medicine)?
A: I’ve taken them both at the same time. It’s not bad so long as it’s either the same doctor prescribing them or both doctors are aware of the other prescriptions. If you have any other doubts, then contact your pharmacist. Pharmacists are actually better educated as to how medications interact in the body than physicians are.
Q: I take 400mg of lamictal, 1mg of lorezepam 3to 4 a day, and 10mg of ambien at night. is that a lot of medicine?
I am bipolar II, i was taking 150mg in the morning and 150mg at night of lamictal for 5yrs they just increased it by 50mg more in the morning and evening total of 400mg a day. I take lorezepam 1mg three to four times and 10mg of ambien at night is this a lot of medication?
A: Not really… I have Bipolar 1, Asthma, and Hashimotos…. I take:
Saphris 20mgs a day
Lamictal 200mgs a day
Klonopin 1 mg a day
Lunesta 2mgs at night
Levothyroxine 150 mgs a day
Nalrexone 4.5 mgs a day
Zyrtec 10 mgs a day
Singulair 10 mgs a day
AND I have 3 inhalers I have to use 2 or more times a day – Albuterol, Qvar, and Advair……..
Your’s sounds liek a pretty typical med cocktail
Q: I’m taking lamictal and having memory and concentration problems, if taken off this medicine what will happen?
Like would my memory and concentration problems disappear and I would go back to being “normal”
A: There are several factors in this.
1: How your body responds to it in general. For some people it will tamper off while for others it may not.
2: How long you’ve been taking it. The longer you’ve been on a med the stronger the side effects
3: The dosage. The higher the dosage the more impact it will have on you.
Talk with your psychiatrist about this. If it is decided you should get off it, do so SLOWLY. This is a must when it comes to mood stabilizers and anti-depressants. The “detox” symptoms can be lessened greatly by making it a gradual process. For most people the symptoms from the meds will go away once it’s finally out of your system completely.
Q: Does lack of water cause medicine to build up in the bloodstream?
I am currently taking 200 mg a day of Lamictal, a medicine used to treat both seizure and bipolar disorders. I was wondering if it can build up in the bloodstream to a point of toxicity if you don’t drink enough water. This question also goes for any medication.
A: Not really, but you’re close. You’re just looking at it from the wrong perspective. Taking the medicine is what causes it to build up in your bloodstream. Drinking water flushes out your bloodstream. Not drinking enough water means the medicine will not be flushed out of your bloodstream.

Q: LAMICTAL: How has taking this medicine affected you?
My wife was just prescribed this and I wanted some first hand input.
A: Lamictal has helped to balance out my moods immensely since I’ve been on it. I take it in conjunction with two other medications and the mix seems to be working well for me. Not sure if this is your wife’s first time with bipolar medication, but I know many doctors will prescribe them along with SSRIs and the like. Obvioulsy, every person is different but I think the combination of the two (or three) work well together. It’s just a matter of finding the right combination that works for you (easier said than done, I know. It took me a while to get the right combo of meds and doses.)
The upside to Lamictal is it quite literally saved my life. When I first began taking it, I didn’t notice any side effects, though my stomach has been a little more sensitive to coffee and other acids.
The downside (for me at least) is it did cause a little weight gain, but I’m not sure if that was from the Lamictal alone or the other drugs I’m on. Also, as you might have read on the Rx information sheet, hair loss is another common side effect. I have long hair and have noticed that I’ve been losing more hair than normal in my hair brushes, but by no means am I losing chunks of hair or anything like that. It’s definitely not noticeable to other people… Just make sure your wife takes a multivitamin with selenium, which I’ve heard combats this issue.
If you want good information on this or any other medication for mood disorders, go to www.crazymeds.org. That site gives you a no b.s. look at all these meds and definitely clarifies any wording by the pharmaceutical company that might be confusing. It’s worth a look.
Good luck and my best to your wife!
Q: I have started a new medicine prescribed by my psychiatrist called “Lamictal”.?
While it is used for seizures, it is also, apparently used for some kinds of depression and/or bipolar disorders.
Are any of you familiar with it and/or taking it?
A: I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2001 and my doctor had me try everything from A-Z. The medications either did not help, made things worse or had awful side effects. After 3 years of suffering I got a second opinion, was weaned from the medications I was taking and tried Lamictal. I have been stable, happy, not depressed or manic and able to function like a normal person. It is an anti-seizure medication, but it is also used for bipolar disorder/depression. It works wonderful for me and has for the last 3 years. I have had no bothersome side effects from it either. I really ran out of hope as nothing else seemed to work for me, but the Lamictal does. I have been taking it twice daily for 3 years now. Hope this helps. Check out the website too. www.lamictal.com
Q: Is lamictal—bipolar medicine a narcotic?
A: Hey, Matthew – Not to take away from the other answerers, but Lamictal (lamotrigine) is primarily an anti-seizure medication. However, like other anti-seizure medications (i.e., Depakote ER), it does exhibit mood-stabilization effects. But it’s definitely not a narcotic and has no addictive potential. Good luck and stay well.
Q: I’m currently taking Klonopin, Luvox and Lamictal. None of them are MAOIs. Is it OK to take cold medicine?
Is it OK to take typical cold/sore throat medicine like Dayquil/Nightquil, Sudafed and other similar products with the medicines I’m taking above? Like I said, none of the above are MAOIs, though they are psychiatric medicines.
A: Yes, you can take OTC cold medicines. The only possible concern would be that since you take klonipin (anxiolytic) that some OTC cold meds can cause heart palpitations, and elevated bp, so if you are prone to panic attacks there are some like sudafed to stay away from, you would know this from past experience. Many OTC cold meds do induce somnolance so it is better to take at night. And benadryl is routinely given as part of a cocktail (combo meds causing synergistic effect). These meds you take are pretty benign, the luvox is a very mild anti-depressant, and the lamictal is just a mild mood stabilizer that many kids take as well as adults.
