A: I have had prescriptions for Topamax, as indicated for migraines. My experience with it has been rather bad. Having been diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, I often have a hard time feeling connected to what is going on immediately around me. When I take Topamax, this effect is greatly amplified. I’ve been on Topamax (an Anti-epileptic drug) for two months now and two of the side effects that i’ve had to deal with are drastic weight loss and constipation.. i went from 115 lbs to 98 lbs in one month and i’m still losing weight. i already have a very small frame and i’m only 5′4″ so i look sick! one of my friends actually told me i’m starting to look anorexic (not got).. i was wondering if there’s any good food supplements out there that can help me GAIN weight while i can still stay on the med? since it seems to be the only thing to help control my seizures,, i bought ovaltine and something called complan i’m gonna start drinking that three times a day. maybe this will help? should i drink it more than that? the med also supresses my apitite so its REALLY hard for me to eat thats another reason i’m thinking of these food supplements.. also what can help me with this constant constipation its been over a month and its killing me!
I’ve spoken to my doctor about the constipation and weight loss but he seems to think the constipation is “not a side effect of the Topamax” although i’ve read in more than one place that it is and hes not to worried about the weight loss he told me it will “eventually” stop in another 4-5 months! i cant afford to loose anymore weight.. i really dont know what to do i already am startin to feel really tired and my bones hurt my especially my shoulders for some reason..
A: You really need to discuss the lack of appetite and constipation with the doctor who prescribed the Topamax. Those are known side effects of the medication, and there are other medications that can be prescribed to help counteract it. As for dietary supplements, Just focus on eating a balanced diet. Add more fiber to help with the constipation. Try Carnation instant breakfast, the bars or shakes. If you feel you didn’t eat enough for any particular meal, you can supplement with one of those. It is a cheaper alternative to Ensure. Losing over 15 lbs in a month is actually pretty serious, especially when you don’t have the body fat reserve to compensate. Talking with the doctor is actually the best route to take regarding this.

yea i recently diagnosed with neuropathy from my family doctor. He said it was from a surgery i had from my club feet. I also recently was discharged from the hospital from overdosing on methadone which i was buying off the street “illegally” i was just wondering if i can get a referral from the local neurologist for pain management and if they can get me anything good to deal with the pain because i am only 19 yrs old i cannot deal with this everyday, severe, chronic pain anymore. A: this is a real problem. pain is such an insidious thing. i have experienced pain, not as bad as yours i am sure and not as long mine is only a few weeks at a time but i can sort of relate to the desperate measures you are taking.
methadone, when it is illegal, is not really an option however if you can get it for medical reasons then that might be the best option open to you at the moment.
all this will take time and a lot more than you would wish for however here are some options for you to think about.
see your doctor, hopefully a sensitive one that you can relate to and explain how this is getting you down and please please can they give you some options. where i come from there are pain management clinics etc as it is now recognized how serious this is. you may have to see a psychiatrist or psychologist to assess your needs and to get some skills and methods on how to cope with this. relaxation and deep breathing as someone else said is extremely valuable but can take some learning. apart from the pain relief drugs there is a device that can be implanted which gives regular doses of morphine to the system i have a friend who has one of these who is now married and has a successful full time responsible job and life after being disabled and unemployable for many many years and unable to work.
you need to tell your doctor that you turned to the illegal purchase and use of methadone in desperation.
hang in there, the time spent to get an answer will be well worth it to be virtually pain free. don’t give up and if your doctor is not sensitive or will not give you a referral try and find one that will.

my son is 19 yrs old and he suffers from seizures since he was 14. they are very bad and strong. we are working on disability but its a drawn out process and red tape. I recently lost my job and i cannot buy his meds (TOPAMAX 100MG) and i was wondering if there is a way i can get help with these meds. every where i have been to i have been turned away. I hate to see my son suffer like this. is there someone a doctor or neurologist out there that has even samples they can help me with.
A: There are low cost community clinics in most areas that should be able to help you. If nothing else take your son to your local ER and they will find a way of getting the medication for him.

No I am not talking about major controlled substances. I just want predisone (asthma steroid), and Topamax, (too expensive here) its a migraine drug. And no its not a painkiller.

A: I live by the border (Rio Grande Valley) and constantly travel to Mexico to get all kinds of medication. You can usually just walk into any pharmacy, ask him (the pharmacist) and he will sell it to you. When I start thinking about my weight a ton then I start eating too much and I never feel satisfied!
I’m 5′4-5′5 about 115 pounds
I’m really muscular because I do gymnastics
but recently the top part of my thighs touch when I put my feet togeather and It makes me really depressed
I took topamax (seziure med(over the summer that I bought online and It wrked until my parents fund out
I’m fifteen and feeling really depressed I feel disgusted and like a failure when I look in the mirror
I eat really healthy I have salads withlow fat ranch for breakfeast, lunch and dinner but cant lose any weight

A: OMG NO! Stop torturing yourself and just accept yourself for who you are. Do not try to fit in with someone else’s (your bullemic friend) defenition of beauty. With what you said it sounds like your not fat… fat is for people that are 10 lbs. or more than their average weight. and it seems your underweight (for your height) so stop worrying. Stress causes premature wrinkles and weight gain. But you shouldn’t worry about that because beauty is determined by your inside (i.e. attitude, charisma, etc.) Love yourself and love life because Bullemia and Anorexia are like dead end streets (literally).

A: You sound like a very good weight for your height and weight. You sound like you have a eating disorder, you should go see a doctor. You are way too young to be thinking about losing weight. Just try to continue your exercises and gymnastics and stay healthy.
Q: One Eye Pupil Dilation with use of medication? Which medication?
I am currently taking Topamax. My allergies were acting up, so I went out and bought Opcon-A allergy eye drops and used it. I didn’t connect this at first because I know Topamax is known to cause rare eye side effects, but a couple of days ago I noticed my left pupil was dilated. I called my doctor, she immediately decided to wean me off the Topamax (I didn’t mention the eye drops). This morning I used the eye drops and my left eye dilated again. I realized the dilation was related to the eye drop (at least I think) and not the Topamax. So I called my doctor and she’s letting me stay on the Topamax and I am not to use the drops anymore. I searched online and found that indeed the allergy eye drops can cause eye dilation. BUT WHY is it only in ONE eye is my question???? Does anyone have an idea. Could there be something wrong with my eye still, or could it be the Topamax? Or can the Opcon-A cause dilation in just one eye? Help???
Talked to my medical doc plus went to see an eye doc. It was the allergy med causing the pupil dilation. No help here from Yahoo. Thanks anyhow.

Around the time i would ovulate i started taking the pill Topamax for my major headache problems. My boyfriend of a year and i had sex the night i started the Topamax and then again the nights following. I read when looking up about Topamax that it can cancel out birth control (which my doctor never told me and i had it written on my sheet that i took birth control). I was looking up stuff about birth control and Topamax because i started feeling “weird” symptoms. Period like cramps, hungry, moody, my breasts swelled up, and i had some flu like symptoms. I figured i was just psyching myself out and tried forgetting about it and waited til the time was closer to testing. So my boyfriend and i continued on with our lives and i kept taking my Topamax, my birth control, but we also used condoms just to be safe until we knew for sure about things. I bought a pregnancy test about a week and a half ago and took one and it was neg. of course. The symptoms went away for about 3 days then returned, and got more apparent. I am supposed to get my period here within the next days and i start my placebo pills tom. which is when i usually start my period. The symptoms i am experiencing now are swollen breasts and noticable dark blue veins all over my boobs that were never there before. (my boobs havent been sore at all and my nipples havent changed colors). I brushed my teeth yesterday and my bristles are super soft and my gums started bleeding out of nowhere when i started brushing. Last night my boyfriend and i went out and ate and i couldnt get enough. I came home and snacked all night. I felt dehydrated like crazy! I kept having such vivid, scary dreams. i woke up all the time to the dreams. I am so emotional. Bloating! I am crying over EVERYTHING. I am also very tired and have a lack of motivation.I know i need to take another HPT to know for sure, but i guess do the symptoms match up, or do some of you get these symptoms before your periods? i have never gotten the blue veins all over my boobs like this before, my gums have never bled unless i brush really hard…who knows…i guess we will see…i just want to know what you girls think about my situation…and i guess i wanna know what your symptoms before you actually found out you were pregnant… 10 pts best answer

I am not even on my full dosage of Topamax yet..i am still taking half pills…and i am taking it for headaches…so….idk…it might be side affects from the Topamax but why would it affect me like this…who knows?
A: Sounds like you might be pregnant. I was super hungry and tired all the time, my boobs got the veins and were very tender. I drank tons of water. I think there is a good chance that you are, but try not to stress over it because if you aren’t then the stress may delay your period longer.

A: The symptoms I expiereced before I found out I was pregnant were I constantly had to go to the bathroom, a slight increase in apetite, and I had the morning sickness. It sounds to me like you are pregnant because I don’t know what could cause all those symptoms except pregnancy. The blood from brushing your teeth is also a symptom of pregnancy I believe it is because of the increase in blood flow or something along those lines. I am not exactly sure, I had the same problem and my doctor explained it to me. Good Luck and take another test asap because it isnt good to be taking medicine while pregnant.

A: I had the same symptoms that you have before I found out that I was pregnant for the second time. I was on B.C. and took medicine from my doctor and the medication cancelled the pill out also. My boobs had the veins for two weeks then the soreness started just to the touch hubby couldn’t even touch it, bleeding of the gums, the dreams of people trying to shoot me and my little 19 month old daughter in our house and me playing dead covering her for the people wouldn’t shoot her.
