Q: Is it possible to test positive for THC taking the drug topamax?
A: I do not believe so, I have never tested positive (take it for migraines), When you go in for a drug test they ask you for a list of the medicines you are on – just bring in your bottles and that will show them you are legally on the medication.
As a final test they may want you to take a “drunk test” (close your eyes touch your nose, etc) and as long as you can pass that you are fine. I take phenobarbitol, valium, and vicodin daily and I have not been refused a job.
Q: Has anyone used the drug Topamax?
I frequently get migraines in the summer because of the heat and sunlight. I decided to take Topamax as preventative therapy. Has anyone used this drug? What side effects did you experience? I know I can look up side effects but I wanted a real persons perspective on what they felt. Was it worth taking the medication?
A: I have had migraines for many years and have tried Topamax. It seemed to be effective but the side effects of tingling fingers and the feeling of them pulsating was too distracting. I returned to the medicine I have used for the prior 10 years.

The drug Topamax used to control seizures and migraines, now marketed as a WEIGHT LOSS DRUG….causes terrible side affects including: overall cognitive slowing, weight loss from lower appetite leading to possible anorexia, vision problems, trouble finding words, concentration problems, insomnia, among others. This drug should not be on the market. It has adversely affected my life for the last 3 years and I do not want others to make the same mistake I have made. Has anyone experienced problems with this drug or would like to help me out with a lawsuit.

Q: Can you recommend a replacement drug for Topamax that…?
Hi, I have been trying Topamax for the last 2 weeks and it has been helping me with my migraine headaches and has improved my sleep. However, it is giving me the worst stomach cramps and bloating and gas. Starting taking Beano supplements with it(over the counter digestive supplements) which has helped a little, but still this is a problem. Today I am going to see my doctor, and would like to see if I could ask him for a similar drug that can do the same thing that can possibly not have this side effect on me…. thanks
A: I am not sure that is one of the side effects but maybe you are taking it on an empty stomach and that is causing it. Ask your doctor. I have been taking it for a year and I have never had that problem. There are other drugs out there but I believe topamax is one of the least intrusive.
Q: I was put on the drug topamax by my dr for migraines, well I?
have been on topiramate now for the last 2 years ( going on 2 years Nov 1st) first they put me on Topamax, worked wonderful, but they switched me to the generic brand, this does NOT at allseem to be working as well, is it possible the topiramate in not as effective as the real stuff?
A: Yes there is a difference, the Topirmate is less refined and sometimes produces less results in the same dosages as Topamax.
Talk to your doctor about getting a stronger prescription.
Q: Is Topamax too heavy a drug for a 15 year old female?
My doctor has me prescribed for Topamax because I get constant headaches, dizzy spells, and seeing spots. I’m wondering how it will effect me because I’m not an adult yet. I’ve heard that there is some memory loss, but is it permanent? Will my body become too relient on the medicine, where if I stop taking it, my headaches will return with a vengeance?
Any advice or answers are highly appreciated,
A: If you’re having frequent migraines, visual disturbances & dizziness like you describe, I think you need a complete neurological work-up and evaluation. Topamax is effective, and you won’t build up a tolerance to it or get worse headaches when you quit. If you were my daughter, I’d rather you try to take Exedrin and/or Imitrex to see if you could get effective relief on an as-needed basis rather than a daily regimen. But if the headaches are very frequent, the Topamax might be more appropriate.
I’d be more concerned about the underlying cause, and what recommendations a neurologist might make. I get migraines, too,and Imitrex has been a godsend for me.
Q: Topamax is a drug im on because of my compulsive habits?
Can I join the army if Im on medication?. I don’t think I can. But if I stop using it then I become really violent before I was on Topamax I kept doing things like killing animals :cats,dogs & I even killed my own hamsters
A: i think you can i just went to the interview yesterday for the army and i went yesterday but depending on the circumstances like ur taking prescribed drugs thats fine but if you had taken drugs for fun and sniffing then theres a difference
Q: Has anyone taken the drug topamax and got off it cold turkey or went back on it? What side effects did youhave
I have been on Topamax a year. I had to quit cold turkey because my insurance expired and I could not afford to pay full price. After about 2 weeks my insurance kicked back in and I was back on it at 100mg. 3 days later I started having real bad chest pains that would soon move to my lower rib cadge and back up then to my stomach and back up. The pain will last for 6 to 8 hours straight. It does this everyday for the last 2 weeks now and counting.
When I called and told my DR. about this he said cut back to 50mg. It should stop. A week later I am still in pain. I am now being winged off it.
Did you have this happen to you?
Does this sound like it is the meds? Or could this be my I.B.S getting worse? When I am sick with the pain I don’t show signs of I.B.S.
I had an E.K.G, X-rays and blood work done last week and all came back ok.

I have had two pharmacist tell me it is, but the pharmacist at the clinic were I get the meds saids they don’t think so. CVS and Wallgreens said it was.
I forgot to add I have no gallbladder.
A: I take topamax and I take 200 mg in the morning and 200 mg at night for neuropathy pain and migraines. I have been dropped off of it for 3 weeks and then right back to my original dose immediately and also other times as well but 3 weeks is the longest for one reason or another. I have never had the pains you described. Everyone is different though. It personally sounds like IBS symptoms to me or possibly even your gall bladder. I would go see another doctor unrelated to the topamax and see what they have to say about it.

A: I TOOK IT .. THE DRUG JUST MADE ME GET IBS PLUS TINGLING IN MY FACE LIKE A STROKE !

side effects being: weight loss, loss of appetite, pins and needles in hands and feet, inability to remember words.
A: Those side effects are typical, and I would say that you will probably have the same side effects if you begin to take it again at the same dosage. I took it for awhile, and as I went up in dose the side effects became more and more. I was slurring at 100 mg and losing words (I know how you feel, it’s just like what you want to say is GONE, like you never learned that word at all!). I would suggest, if you decide to go back on it, that you go down a dose from what you were on. Maybe that will help.
Q: Has anyone been on the prescription drug Topamax and experience depression/mood changes and crying spells?
I have been on Topamax prescribed by my neurologist for my headaches for about a month now and have been experiencing massive anxiety, depression, mood changes and crying spells. I have a crying spell and massive anxiety attack to which I can only describe as feeling of indescribeable hopelessness and helplessness at least once a day, which is very unlike me. I voiced my concerns to my neurologist who told me to to drop from 50mgs a day to 25mgs a day, and to discontinue use if symptoms get worse. He says that he has never heard of emotional side effects from this drug before. I dropped down to 25mgs and felt better for a few days, but now feel awful again. Has this happened to anyone else? I feel like I am going crazy. Help 
A: I took 10 mg of topamax, the only thing it did was make me stutter
Didnt really do much they perscribed it to me for migraines, it shouldnt be having an adverse effect on you because its a monosaccaride, meaning its actually just a sugar compound. Bring it up with your doctor

Geesh. I really hope that’s how you spell it. It’s not that late, but I’m so tired at the moment it’s not even funny. Anyways to the question! For this drug (Topamax: Was originally made to prevent seizures if I’m not mistaken, but I take it for the Migraine purpose) It says that you have to drink lots of water, or there could be a problem with kidney stones.
So I was wondering would it count if I was drinking Flavored water? For example: Kool-aid. All you do is add the flavoring and a cup of sugar.
I really don’t want to experience having a Kidney Stone, Lol. Thanks for the help!
A: yes purple drink counts. but you may want to drink some plain water in addition. too much sugar can help dehydrate you

A: Yes it can! I was in the same boat as you up until 3 weeks ago. I was hospitalized because I got severe panic attacks and asthma due to Topamax. My blood pressure is finally coming down. I was on Topamax for migraines, and I’m getting migraines again, but because of this experience, I’m switching to herbal remedies. I loved topamax, but the side effects were really bad for me.

A: no. as a female whose taken topamax, there may be a slight bit of irregularity to your cycle, but it will not stop it. In fact Topamax has been known to give you anemia

I am on Lithium, Abilify, and Lamectal. I am depressed and trying to become happier. I need something that will motivate me with weight loss side effects and mood stabilizing side effects. I was on Wellbutrin but was taken off it because I got drunk one night and was mistaken for being manic.
A: I took Topamax for migraines for awhile and it made my fingers and toes tingle most of the time. That is a side effect. And, yes, you definitely do not need to drink alcohol with any of these medications. That is very harmful to your body. I can’t help you much with Cymbalta..never taken it or know anyone who has. Both my daughters are Bipolar but neither one takes Cymbalta, Topamax caused one of them to start loosing their hair. She quit taking it real quick like. Sorry I can’t be any more help than this.
